Finding the right Muslim lawyer in Singapore is not something most people think about until they need one. And when that moment comes, it usually involves something deeply personal: a divorce, a custody dispute, an inheritance matter, or estate planning under Islamic law.

I have spent the last eight years building websites for businesses across Singapore, and legal firms make up a good portion of my client base. That experience has given me a front-row seat into how these firms operate, what their clients say about them, and how they present themselves online. For this instalment of Terris Recommends, I went deeper: researching reputations, reading client reviews, checking credentials, and speaking with people who have actually engaged these firms.

This list covers the 10 best Muslim lawyers in Singapore for 2026. Whether you need a Syariah divorce lawyer, help with custody and maintenance, or guidance on Islamic estate planning (Faraid, Wasiat, Hibah), these are the firms I would point a friend or family member towards.

01

What I Look for in a Muslim Lawyer in Singapore

Before jumping into the list, here is how I evaluate these firms. My criteria are shaped by years of working alongside legal professionals and hearing directly from their clients.

  1. Specialisation in Syariah law. Singapore has a dual legal system for Muslims. The Administration of Muslim Law Act (AMLA) governs matters like divorce, custody, and inheritance for Muslim residents. I look for firms where Syariah law is a core practice area, not just a footnote on their services page.
  2. Track record and client reviews. Google reviews, testimonials on SingaporeLegalAdvice.com, and word-of-mouth referrals all matter. A firm with hundreds of positive reviews and a high success rate tells me they consistently deliver for their clients.
  3. Transparent pricing. Legal fees can be a source of stress, especially during a divorce. I favour firms that offer fixed-fee packages, clear pricing structures, and flexible payment options.
  4. Accessibility and communication. Does the firm respond promptly? Do they explain things in plain language? Can you reach them via WhatsApp or a free initial consultation? These details matter when you are going through a difficult time.
  5. Experience and credentials. Years of practice, awards, Straits Times rankings, and recognition from legal directories (like Benchmark Litigation or Doyle's Guide) all factor into my assessment.

1. AW Law

I built the AW Law website. That process gave me months of direct access to their team, their case data, and their approach to client service. What stood out to me was not just their marketing; it was the substance behind it. A 90% success rate for contested divorces is a bold claim, and they back it up with over 500 satisfied clients.

The firm is led by Abdul Wahab, who graduated from the University of Leeds in 2013 and was called to the Singapore Bar in 2015. Despite being a younger firm, AW Law has built a strong reputation in Syariah divorce and Muslim family law. They handle talaq (husband-initiated divorce), fasakh (wife-initiated divorce), custody disputes, division of matrimonial assets, maintenance claims, and estate planning under Faraid.

What I appreciate most about AW Law is their pricing model. They offer flat fees with no hidden costs, and they provide instalment plans for clients who need financial flexibility. Their team, including Mr. Wahab and his secretary Leela, consistently receives praise for being patient, meticulous, and easy to communicate with. If you are looking for a Muslim divorce lawyer in Singapore who combines strong results with a genuinely client-first approach, this is my top pick.

2. Emerald Law LLC

Emerald Law LLC, formerly known as B. Rao & K.S. Rajah, has been part of Singapore's legal landscape since 1987. That is nearly four decades of experience, and it shows. Their Syariah law team is consistently recognised as a market leader, earning a spot on The Straits Times Best Law Firms list in 2021, 2022, 2024, 2025, and 2026. They have also held a 5-star rating for Family Law for three consecutive years.

Joint Managing Director Mohammad Rizuan Bin Mohammad Yasin leads their Syariah practice. He is a general practitioner with deep expertise across civil and criminal litigation, family law, and Syariah divorces. He is also well versed in Muslim estate planning, including nuzriah, hibah, and deeds of family arrangement. Clients describe him as patient, thorough, and someone who genuinely has their welfare at heart.

Emerald Law operates the dedicated portal syariahlawyersg.com alongside their main site, which tells me they take their Syariah practice seriously enough to build a standalone brand around it. If you want a firm with decades of proven results and Straits Times recognition, Emerald Law is hard to beat.

3. IRB Law LLP

IRB Law LLP operates the largest Syariah law practice in Singapore, with more than 10 lawyers and paralegals dedicated to this area. That scale matters. When a firm has an entire team focused on Syariah law, they can handle complex cases faster and draw on a wider range of experience.

One of the standout features of IRB Law is their multilingual capability. Their Syariah practitioners are conversant in Malay, Tamil, Chinese, and English, which is a significant advantage in Singapore's multicultural context. Muslim families here come from diverse linguistic backgrounds, and being able to communicate in your preferred language during a stressful legal process makes a real difference.

The firm covers the full spectrum of Syariah matters: divorce proceedings, child custody, division of matrimonial assets, Muslim wills (Wasiat and Hibah), estate administration, and Islamic finance advisory. They have received over 800 reviews on Reviews.io, and clients consistently praise their professionalism and responsiveness. Their main office is on Jalan Sultan, with a second location at WestGate Tower in Jurong East, giving clients across Singapore easy access.

4. PKWA Law

PKWA Law has something that very few law firms in Singapore can claim: over 3,900 Google reviews with a 4.9-star rating. That volume of feedback, at that rating, is extraordinary. It reflects a firm that has served thousands of clients and maintained a remarkably high standard of service throughout.

The firm has 12 lawyers who are well versed in Syariah divorce cases, making it one of the most well-resourced practices in this space. PKWA is ranked by The Straits Times as one of Singapore's Best Family Law Firms, and their lawyers are consistently named as leading family lawyers by Benchmark Litigation, Asian Legal Business, Singapore Business Review, and Doyle's Guide. They report a 90% success rate in settling divorce cases amicably and uncontested.

What I find particularly appealing about PKWA is their accessibility. They offer free consultations, fixed and transparent fees, and they are based at HDB Hub in Toa Payoh, right next to the MRT station. They also have offices in Raffles Place, Jurong, and Tampines. For anyone looking for a large, trusted, and highly reviewed Muslim divorce law firm in Singapore, PKWA is a safe choice.

5. Abdul Rahman Law Corporation (ARLC)

ARLC is a boutique firm established in 2014 by Managing Director Abdul Rahman Bin Mohd Hanipah. The word "boutique" is important here. Unlike the larger firms on this list, ARLC offers a more personalised, hands-on experience. If you prefer working directly with a senior lawyer rather than being passed between associates, this is the type of firm to consider.

Their practice covers Muslim divorce, Islamic finance for SMEs, Syariah-compliant wills (Wasiat and Hibah), estate planning, conveyancing, immigration, and criminal law. They are one of the few firms on this list that actively practises Islamic finance law, which is a niche but growing area in Singapore.

Clients describe Abdul Rahman as "really knowledgeable in his legal stuff" and highlight his patience and dedication to keeping them updated throughout the process. The firm offers free initial consultations and aims to make their services accessible to every Muslim in Singapore. Their office is on North Bridge Road, near Kampong Glam, which is a fitting location for a firm that serves the Muslim community.

6. A. Rohim Noor Lila LLP

Mr. A. Rohim Sarip brings 35 years of legal experience to this firm, and his standing in Singapore's Malay Muslim community is well documented. He received the PBM (Public Service Medal) in 2012 and the BBM (Public Service Star) in 2021 for his volunteerism, and he was awarded an Outstanding Contribution Award (Gold) by the Legal Aid Bureau for his pro bono work. That combination of legal skill and community service is rare.

The firm, operational since 1995, practises across conveyancing, commercial law, corporate law, wills, probate, estate administration, family law, adoption, and Muslim law. Mr. Rohim is also a Commissioner for Oaths and a Notary Public, which means he can handle a wide range of legal documentation under one roof.

Clients praise the firm for being "professional and responsive" and "not pricey." One reviewer noted that Mr. Rohim assisted with their divorce "in what I believe to be the swiftest possible manner." If you value decades of experience and a lawyer who is deeply embedded in the community, A. Rohim Noor Lila is an excellent choice.

7. Muslim Law Singapore

Muslim Law Singapore (muslimlawyersg.com) is a practice that has been serving the Muslim community since 1987. That is over 30 years of focused experience in Syariah law matters, which gives them deep institutional knowledge of how the Syariah Court operates and what strategies tend to work.

Their lawyers practise across civil and criminal litigation, family law, and Syariah divorces. At least one of their practitioners is a member of the Muslim Law Practice Committee at the Law Society of Singapore, which signals active involvement in shaping how Muslim law is practised in the country. They are also well versed in Muslim estate planning, including nuzriah, hibah, and deeds of family arrangement.

The firm describes itself as compassionate and caring, with lawyers "fully committed to the wellbeing of their cases with professionalism." Based on client feedback, that description holds up. If you want a firm with deep roots in the Muslim legal community and a track record that spans three decades, Muslim Law Singapore deserves serious consideration.

8. High Street Chambers

High Street Chambers has built its reputation on family law, insolvency, and Syariah law over 30 years of practice. They were awarded the Singapore SME 500 Award at the SME Summit 2024, which recognises commitment to business excellence and innovation. For a law firm, that kind of recognition from the broader business community is a good sign.

Their Syariah lawyers handle a wide range of cases: Muslim marriages, divorces, child custody, maintenance, and asset distribution. They also advise on Islamic finance and inheritance disputes. The firm takes a practical, solutions-oriented approach, employing various dispute strategies to help clients reach their objectives as efficiently as possible.

One thing I notice about High Street Chambers is their transparent fee structure. They make pricing information available upfront, which aligns with what I believe every law firm should do. Their office at Peninsula Plaza on North Bridge Road places them in the heart of Singapore's legal district, alongside several other Muslim law practices.

If affordability is your primary concern, Prestige Legal LLP is worth a close look. They offer clear, upfront pricing with no hidden costs, free initial consultations, and flexible payment arrangements.

With over a decade of experience in family law, Prestige Legal handles Syariah divorce, child custody, maintenance, asset division, and other family-related matters. Their lawyers are described as professional and specialised in all dimensions of Syariah divorce. One client noted that their lawyer "is as good as his word," which is high praise in a field where trust is everything.

The firm is based at Manhattan House on Chin Swee Road, which is conveniently located near Chinatown MRT. For anyone who has been hesitant to engage a lawyer because of cost concerns, Prestige Legal removes that barrier with their affordable packages and no-commitment consultations.

10. Netto & Magin LLC

Netto & Magin LLC rounds out this list as a boutique firm with over 50 years of combined experience. Director Lucy Netto brings more than 30 years of personal experience in family and divorce law, making her one of the most seasoned practitioners in Singapore for these matters.

The firm has a dedicated Syariah law practice (accessible at syariah.nmlawcorp.com.sg) and covers the full range of Muslim divorce proceedings under the Administration of Muslim Law Act (AMLA). They also handle civil and commercial litigation, criminal law, employment disputes, and corporate advisory. How Much Does a Syariah Divorce Lawyer Cost in Singapore?

This is usually the first question people ask, and the answer depends on whether your divorce is contested or uncontested.

For an uncontested Syariah divorce (where both parties agree on the divorce and ancillary matters like custody, maintenance, and asset division), most firms on this list charge between $1,290 and $3,000 in fixed fees. Some firms, like AW Law and PKWA, offer flat-fee packages with instalment plans.

For a contested divorce (where there are disputes over custody, maintenance, or asset division), costs can range from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the complexity. Hourly rates for lawyers in Singapore typically fall between $300 and $1,000 per hour.

Syariah Court filing fees are separate and relatively modest. The court charges $50 for a divorce originating summons. If you cannot afford a lawyer, the Legal Aid Bureau and the Law Society Pro Bono Services can assess whether you qualify for subsidised or free legal representation.

My advice: always ask for a written fee estimate before engaging any firm. The best firms on this list provide that upfront.

13

How Long Does a Muslim Divorce Take in Singapore?

Based on data from the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), the median time for divorce cases at the Syariah Court to conclude is around 4 months if both parties consent to the divorce and ancillary issues at the mediation stage.

Here is the typical timeline:

  1. Marriage Counselling Programme (MCP): Before filing, both parties must complete the mandatory MCP. This is a prerequisite.
  2. Filing the Originating Summons: Once MCP is complete, you file with the Syariah Court.
  3. Mediation: The court schedules a mediation session approximately 10 weeks after accepting your filing. In 2023, one-third of all divorce cases filed were resolved at this stage.
  4. Beyond mediation: If mediation does not resolve everything, the case proceeds to hearing. Contested cases can take 12 months or longer.

The speed of your case depends heavily on how cooperative both parties are and how complex the ancillary matters become. Having a good Syariah lawyer can significantly speed up the process by helping you prepare strong documentation and negotiate effectively during mediation.

14

Do I Need a Lawyer for Syariah Court?

Technically, no. You are allowed to represent yourself (act "in person") at the Syariah Court. However, I would strongly recommend engaging a lawyer for several reasons:

  • The process is complex. Muslim divorce in Singapore involves the Administration of Muslim Law Act (AMLA), the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Rules, and potentially civil law principles for matters like property division. Missing a procedural step can delay your case by months.
  • Ancillary matters require negotiation. Custody, care and control, maintenance, and division of matrimonial assets all involve legal principles that a trained lawyer can navigate far more effectively than a layperson.
  • Mistakes are costly. A poorly drafted consent order or a missed deadline can have lasting consequences on your rights and your children's welfare.
  • Many firms offer affordable options. As this list shows, several firms provide fixed-fee packages starting from around $1,290 for uncontested cases, and free initial consultations are common.

If cost is genuinely a barrier, the Legal Aid Bureau provides means-tested legal assistance. But for most people, the investment in a qualified Syariah lawyer pays for itself many times over in terms of outcomes and peace of mind.
